Default Rear drive belt

I had to cancel my dyno tune appointment this morning because I snapped a drive belt last night on the way home from the watering hole. I did a search and came up with 300 hits but didn’t find what I was looking for so here goes. What do you guys recommend for a performance drive belt on my ’05 Dyna? I would like to find something better than the stock HD belt. Thanks in advance.

Have you considered changing to a rear chain drive, they are stronger.

Yes I have considered changing to a chain drive. Zippers has one for about $310 but they are only using a 520 chain which is the same size as I have on my Triumph Bonneville 750 and my dirt bikes so I’m not sure if it would hold up on the Dyna. I checked with the mechanical engineer I work with and the belt should be stronger than a 520 chain according to him. If I can find a 620 or 630 setup I may go with that.

I don't know what strength belts are rated for but if you buy a good quality 520 it is rated at 10,000 lbs. That's pretty stout, and the newer O ring chains grease packed do not neet lubed, keeping your bike cleaner. I am considering converting to a chain when I change over to a belt primary. I have the old 1 1/2" belt and want to put a wider tire on the back.

My .02, I'd stay with belt vice chain. The newer belts are very strong! I ran the same belt on my 116" Twincam for 60K and only changed it because I picked up a rock. I've heard of VERY few belts braking and when they do you can usually blame it on a rock or something like that.
