Default Primary Drain Plug

After I changed the primary oil a few thousand miles ago, I developed a small leak at the drain plug. I just changed it again and noticed the threads on the plug were a little “sharp” like it might have been cross threaded. I reinstalled with a new o-ring and teflon tape, torqued to 55 inch pounds. Now I get 3 or 4 drops overnight. I would really appreciate any ideas you talented gear heads might have

Go get a new plug maybe. If you are using teflon tape & new oring you may have stripped the threads in the case. You may want to chase the threads in the case by using a new bolt the same size/thread or a tap dipped in some oil to clean any metal or gunk off of them. I use white loctite on the threads of all my drain plugs because it is a hydraulic locker/sealer. You can get it at autozone.

Maybe you've already checked but be sure there's no old gasket or other debris getting between the plug o-ring and metal surfaces.

It's also important to lube the new o-ring as they do have a tendency to twist and tear if installed dry.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. KBFXDLI I tried your suggestion and will need to wait for a couple of days to see if that took care of it. If not I guess it is time for an insert.

Thanks again. Always good advise on this great site.
