Default 1997 Road King leak

Got a 1997 Road King about three weeks ago and about a week ago I start noticing it mark it's territory. I noticed oil dripping from the primary at the drain plug so I made sure it was tight and also checked the cover bolts. I wiped everything down and rode. Still leaking so I started to look at it closer. It is gear oil which is what's in the trans so I know that it is leaking between the primary backplate and trans. My question is how big of a pain is it going to be to fix and is it gonna be alright to leave until winter?

It's about a four hour job if it's coming out of the main or quad seal. Get a manual if you have never done it before. You can let it go till winter just keep an eye on the level.
