Default Trip Report: 2017 NE, KS,NM,CO,AZ,UT,OK,TX

Nancy during a gas stop in southeast Colorado.

I am new at this so please bear with me as I learn how to post on this Forum especially images. This is an attempt to report our travels June 24 to July10 2017. We started from Nebraska on June 24 headed to Raton, NM about 472 miles. Not many photos that day and mostly flat open Plains driving 2 lane highways.

Default Day 2 Raton, NM to Pagosa Springs, CO

Lunch off the bike near Chama.

Roadside view during lunch.

Overnight brought rain to the Raton area fog and lingering clouds greeted us in the parking lot to start day 2. Which included Hwy 64 to Eagles Nest and a wonderful stop at the Viet. Vets. Memorial. Then on to Taos across the Gorge Bridge and up into the Chama area on to Pagosa Springs. Stayed the night at the High Country Lodge. Great location good hot tubs and quality owners.

Default Day 3 Pagosa Springs to Montrose, CO

Yip another Divide sign.

The View I enjoyed it hope you do as well.

The Black Canyon Nat. Park from the Rim.

Parking at the Staywise Inn.

Had to find some Gorilla Tape to repair the floorboard.

Awoke to a great hot breakfest at the Motel, bike loaded early start headed out on Hwy 160 across Wolf Creek Pass into South Fork turned north bound on Hwy 149. Seeing Creed, CO the Spring Creek Pass and through Slumgullion Pass to Powderhorn, CO up to Hwy 50 left turn westbound for Montrose. Traveled the Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and then to the bottom end at river level. Note the ride to the river is not for the faint at heart 16% grades on narrow poorly maintained asphalt (great fun). Then to the Motel the Staywise inn good parking, nice hot tub and with inwalking distance of one of the last Great steakhouses Ted Nelsons outstanding service and well trained staff can't say enough about this guy and his resturant you just have to eat there.

Default Day 4

It was a little hazy for the camera so please bear with the photo's today.

Mesa Verde Views were outstanding.

Really good eats at the mom and pop run La Casita.

Todays travels involve the 550 from Montrose to Ridgeway, CO. Then Hwy 62 to Placerville, CO and south bound on the 145 Hwy to Cortez, CO and Mesa Verde National Park. We stayed at the Cortez Best Western and had a great dinner at a little Mexican Joint (photo included).

If anyone takes in the Black Canyon, be sure to take the little 200 yard hike to see the painted wall.
The Painted Wall in Black Canyon Gunnison National Park.
