The return trip minus the video creeping back through RMNP as it was grueling ride and grueling to watch. This would be the only time I rode through any real rain and this was for just maybe a mile or so going back through Berthoud.

Not all sunshine

Mileage at the end of the day

Also did this in RMNP with my numb somewhat paralyzed hand. Would drop it two more times at Pikes Peak and somehow it continued to work!!!! $200 repair bill once home
grrrrr

Man when I was out there a few weeks earlier I got hammered with heavy rain and hail 5 out of 5 days Berthoud pass. It started going up and didn't end until Winter Park.

It is a pretty place and worth spending more time out there. Glad you had fun. I know I did out there.

Day 3 Monday Aug 28
Today is Walden Loop Day. Start out by taking hwy 34 out of Estes Park over to Loveland CO and stop at Thunder Mountain Harley to pick up a shirt for myself and also my 3 y/o grandson and also for grandson #2 due around Dec 1. Really nice dealership that also had the new 18's on the floor. Not impressed with the 18 lineup but I'm old so what do I know. Great bikes I'm sure but not my thing.

34 out of Estes Park is a great road but I knew from watching YT videos prior to my trip that there was a lot of construction going on due to a major past flood down this road and they are trying again to re-engineer this road. It has to be awesome when there is no traffic or road work and you can let it hang out. As it is it's still an OK ride with great scenery.

After leaving the Dealership I jumped on I-25 for a quick trip up to Fort Collins where eventually I got over to Hwy 287 and then to Hwy 14 Poudre Canyon Rd. This would be the highlight of my trip as this is just an AWESOME ride and I hope if I ever make it back out with my wife and son that we can ride it again. If I had it to do over I would turn around in Walden and ride it back instead of taking 125 down to Granby as there is nothing particularly spectacular about that ride and most of it was actually quite boring. I never saw much in the way of videos of it so didn't know what to expect. If you do this ride make sure you have enough gas leaving Fort Collins to go 115 miles!!!! The only gas along this road were a couple of places with just 85 octane fuel. There is a nice Shell Station in Walden with 91 octane.

That's about as little traffic as I have seen on Big Thompson Canyon in years.

The one saving grace of making the ride back down to Granby was this time when I went back through RMNP to get to Estes the traffic was very very light and it even wasn't very cold up top. Roughly 4pm on Monday must be good timing!!! Also got to see my first elk of the trip so another Bucket list item was scratched off!
