Default Thinking Texas from So cal road trip!

Got a brother about an hour above Houston, and would like to take the road king. About a 2 and a half day trip.

Any suggestions for the trip?

Leaving So cal Orange county and riding to Tucson. Then, as far as possible into Texas.
Then hit Houston, turn north and go to Lake Conroe to see my Bro!

Just did the same trip last month to San Antonio and back. Keep a bottle of water handy at all times. I used it for drinking and spraying me down. Those deserts are brutal!

If you are trying to make time, the best bet is to stay on the freeway. But, if you are willing to make a slight diversion, when you leave El Paso, at Van Horn, ride down to Marfa, down to Persidio, over through Big Bend National Park then you can ride either back up to Alpine or Marathon and hit highway 90 back into San Antonio. I like the ride from the park to Alpine a little better than the one to Marathon. To me, it's a little more scenic. But that's just my opinion.
