Rt 127 around Cape Ann is nice. Pick it up in Beverly, and head east past Endicott College. Visit the Manchester harbor and Singing Beach. Be sure to turn right onto little roads that carry names like Harbor St, Beach St, Ocean St, Raymont St, Shore Rd, Hesperus, etc. Stop by Hammond Castle, and cut through Stage Fort Park and past the Gloucester Fisherman Memorial. Tour Eastern Point in Gloucester. Continue on 127 out to Rockport, and stop at Helmut's Strudel Hut out on Bearskin Neck. Just past Rockport, ride out to the granite jetty overlooking the bay. Turning west down the north side of Cape Ann, continue on 127 and stop at the Lobster Pound for a lobster roll. Be sure to swing through Lane's Cove, an ancient granite walled harbor. Continuing west on 127, ride alongside the Annisquam river, and enjoy the small bridges & river views. Eventually 127 runs past the Addison Gilbert hospital and dumps you out on Rt 128 again at one of the circles. Its a very nice ride.
Nelson's Ride, a popular charity ride leaves from Stage Fort Park in Gloucester this Sunday Aug 22. Tickets are $10. It doesn't follow this coastal route, but much of the interior horse country of Cape Ann. About 1,000 bikes show up each year for this ride.

Enjoy!

MA riding
As a fellow MA resident, I suggest you join up with a local riding club. You mentioned going to Plymouth so I'm guessing you live on the south shore. If you do, I recommend clubs like the New England Vikings, the Upland Riders, or South Shore HOG.
I belong to SSHOG and the road captains plan day rides all over New England. Each club is different so check them out by visiting their websites or go to a club meeting. You might even want to join them on a club ride as a guest to see if they are the type of people you want to ride with.
By the way, hogrider98 is correct, western and central MA has most of the great riding but there are still a few good rides in Bristol and Plymouth Counties as well as on the north shore.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions you'd like to ask.
