Thanks, it was one heck of a ride this time. Still recovering, will work on my ride report this week.

I did 9000 miles in the 11 days because I totally screwed up on he first days of the second leg

The last few weeks have been quite an adventure for sure! The scope and scale of vistas and emotions are still somewhat fresh. I hope to get started on my ride report this weekend.

But I have to start with a huge shout-out to Chris! Without your help starting a few years ago, this might all still be a pipe dream.

THANK YOU!

I still ride for Team Parrothead!

Default Saddlesore 1000

Went back to Baltimore for the summer. Left Delray Beach Florida on Saturday July 13th in morning at 4:24AM arrived in Baltimore at 12:17AM on the 14th. 1,082 miles.
.
Google maps showed 14hrs 40 minutes, was planning on getting home before 9:30PM but the weather had different plans. Had to hole up for awhile as thunder & lightning strikes caught up to me. Got off at exit 146 in South Carolina which was about 22 miles south of Florence. The only things there was a "relax Inn" and an abandoned gas station across the street. Parked under an awning on the side of the station. Never before did I see and feel a 4 bolt lightning strike that was way too close for comfort. As I proceeded to walk further to the side of the station to check on the clouds did I see 3 large gas holding tanks with attached lightning rods about 100 yards north of where I was standing. I guess when the station was built the tanks were above ground. Seeing those tanks I decided to put on my rain gear and take off in the rain with some lightning in the distance. About 50 miles later getting into North Carolina the rain finally stopped. Driving at night in the northeast was also taking its toll on these 71 year old eyes but finally got to my ending destination at 12:17AM.
Check one more item off my bucket list.

Way to go M8. Sounds like you had a few extra challenges. Are you submitting it to the IBA?

Yes, all 32 pages were submitted last week. Could have been worse, torrential downpours did not last that long.

I threw out this idea of the SS1600 (metric here) and a friend of mine are planning on something late August. Either we are heading east of going to bomb south to Oregon and back. I think planning it is going to be almost as interesting as performing the ride.

My only concern with heading to Oregon and back would be doing two border crossings. But then you likely know when the good and bad times to cross are.

One thought is ending the ride before re-entering Canada so there is only one crossing

We both have Nexxus passes, border is usually no more than 20 minutes. But again, just planning it out for now. Maybe pushing down to California and back might be the way to go.
