To your query about deer. This morning on my work, traveling 30 miles east on I-70 between Zanesville and Cambridge, Ohio, I counted 15 deer in various states of mush along the east bound lane only. Looks like maybe your best shot would be to make your way to US Rt. 33 East somewhere around Elkhart, IN and run it till you get to Elkins, WV. From Elkins you can take US Rt. 250 South to Staunton, VA. Pretty sure you can find your way from there. I can't attest too much for 33 in Indianna or the northern part of Ohio but the southern end of Ohio and West Virginia is a hoot. Not saying that the road is crooked in WV but the last time I was across that part, I heard the same song on the radio 3 times in the same curve. It can be a challenge.
