Talking Pacific Coast Hwy and CA Loop

We are headed to CA for what we hope will be a trip of a lifetime. The wife and I are from VA. We have shipped our bikes to SF (my Ultra, her Can-Am). They delivered them last Friday so they are sitting there waiting for us. We get on the plane Friday June 20th. Our itinerary is as follows:

Fri 6/20 - land in SF and pick up bikes
Sat 6/21 - balloon ride in Napa Valley and knock around bay area
Sun 6/22 - NASCAR race at Sonoma
Mon 6/23 - road trip begins. Head north on PCH out of SF and stay in Westport Monday night
Tue 6/24 - Avenue of the Giants, complete northern CA section of PCH and head east probably staying in Red Bluff
Wed 6/25 - into Sierra Nevada's staying in Lake Tahoe (and its my birthday)
Thu 6/26 - Yosemite
Fri 6/27 - Bodie State Historic Park and the ghost town then heading south. Not sure where we are staying this night
Sat 6/28 & Sun 6/29 - Beverly Hills and knocking around all the sites of LA
Mon 6/30 - North out of LA on PCH
Tues 7/1 - Continue north on PCH. May do Hearst Castle. May try and stay in Monterey
Weds 7/2 - Return to SF
Thu 7/3 - Tour of Alcatraz and other SF sites
Fri 7/4 - 4th of July in SF
Sat 7/5 - Drop bikes back off and head to airport. Be very sad trip is over

Just the road trip portion is 1600+ miles so this is a very ambitious agenda. But we figure we may not get out there on the bikes ever again so lets do as much as we can. I hope to average about 230 miles a day. Hopefully that's not too hard a push and we can see sites along the way.

I am going to try and blog and post pictures each day. If I do have the energy each evening to do so you can follow along our journey at Adventures of Slim Jim and Chick-O-Stik.

If you have any thoughts please post them here. We are hugely excited for this trip.

Who are you using to ship the bikes? PCH is a freakin awesome ride. By far the best ride I've ever been on.

We used Haul Bikes (Daily Direct) as they were the only ones that could accommodate the Can-Am at my house. I had originally contracted Federal Motorcycle Transport when we were just going to ship my Harley and ride 2 up. Then we decided to ship the Can-Am and Federal's trucks do not have a large enough lift on the back to accommodate the Can-Am.

I had Haul Bikes ship a 2013 SG from Florida to S. Oregon a few months ago and was very pleased, nervous but pleased when it made it safe and sound.

You might want to double up on the Spyder to get to Bodie, last time I was out there it wasn't an Ultra happy road, maybe they paved it since. Have a good trip

The road to Bodie is dirt with wash board go slow it's a can do. The weather changes about every hour it can rain then you'll get a sun burn then it can snow on you all in four hours time.

Sounds like a great ride.

What's your route from Tahoe to Yosemite?
I would suggest 89 south out of Tahoe to Markleeville - (good place for lunch), then 395 to Bridgeport, another good stop for food, etc., then Yosemite. If you have the time, I highly recommend taking the road to Glacier Point in Yosemite, absolutely spectacular views from there, great bike road too.

Enjoy the ride. Hurst castle area is my stomping ground. Look for the Zebras chillin on the hills and the elephant seals on the beach. If you guys are into the wine country thing check out Paso Robles. Tons of great winery's.

Awesome. Might encounter serious heat, might not. Coolvests for $30-$35 work great and pack very well.
