Not knocking the m8 ...Id like one...but I think alot of guys mistake the smoothness for more power. I've read a bunch of posts where guys think even the 107 will outrun a 110, not sure who was riding that 110...even with Harleys dyno numbers it's not a race. Now the 114 and 117 will be a game changer, especially with a little aftermarket magic but until then I'll continue to hunt for m8's out on the road lol

Not much difference between the M8 114 and the M8 117. It's barley noticable and some of that may also be my new CVO road glide is a little lighter than the CVO street glide.

Well, I have experience on a 110 CVO Road glide Ultra, and my wife has a 17 Road glide special, 107. They were very close, I just barley beat her 107. Yet when she had a 15 Road Glide special, my 110 CVO RGU easily beat her.

The M8 107 is quite a bit stronger than the Twin Cam 103. The twin cam 110 is a little stronger than the M8 107.

The M8 114 stock has about the same power as a 110 with a good head pipe, mufflers and a tune.

I have owned all the bikes I am talking about. Just traded my CVO Street glide with the 114 for a CVO road glide with the 117

I was under the belief that more valves meant a more efficient air pump, which is what an internal combustion engine is. Is this not a simplistic explanation of the praise for the M8.

My buddy has a 17 M8 with the torque cam. He spanks my ***. Granted hes on a street glide and I'm on a 16 CVO RG ultra stock but still.... pisses me off!! So next up is a V&H propipe 2 into 1 with a TTS and a tour pack delete. If that doesn't do the trick then we'll go a little deeper.

Hell it would be cheaper to just buy his bike.

I just bought my '17 CVO PS Breakout and rode a new softail with the M8 the same day. The M8 was TOO smooth to me and didn't feel or sound like a HD to me. Just a matter of personal taste I guess.

mrbrian. I posted the original comparison question here. Seems like many are leery of the 110 engine. And then there are those who say it's a great, powerful engine. I too like the Pro Street CVO Breakout bike. With some customizing it's a great HD bike for sure. Sounds and looks great. Are you going to add to your bikes looks/performance in the after markets?

Well, I have owned four CVO's with the 110 engine. All dealer serviced, never missing a service, and never beat on. 2 of the 4 had lifter failure requiring a new engine. One had no issues and the one I still have was built by me wiht 1500 miles on the motor, so the valves, lifter, valve springs and such are not stock as I do not trust stock.

44K and 46K miles were the lifter failures, both bikes just under 2 years old

Not good if you're a Harley engineer. That sentiment has been expressed by more than a few here. HD should have fessed up and corrected that 110 lifter problem It's called a recall and yes they happen all the time in the auto world.

Well there most definitely appears to be a lifter issue that affects some bikes with the 110, may be a quality control issue or a design flaw but doesn't appear to be on all 110's as many have not had issues, and is trending down on the ones built in the last couple of years. Time will tell if the M8 will have problems of it's own. In the mean time I have my fingers crossed that I will not have this issue on mine, as I still wouldn't trade it for the M8 softail knowing that this is a looming issue, and not knowing what future issues the M8 may have. If the HD reliability engineers missed the lifter issue on the 110, then who knows what may be missed on the M8. In the meantime I'm just gonna love the hell out of every mile on my bike and yes I have added some aftermarket Pipes in the V&H big Radius & also a V&H FP3 tuner....music to my ears! I also added some Chrome Glow lighting strip to the rear fender and changed the front running/turns to Custom Dynamics - Dynamic rings, since I am not a fan of the Amber lights as running lights.
