Harley Starter

Well looks like the tranny and clutch is a 1990 or later so that's the starter you need to look for. What they did was an upgrade parts wise over the stock shovel stuff but it also knocks hell out the restoration or " stock " value of the bike. I see the 3 bolt exhaust flanges now defiantly aftermarket heads, now I'm wondering what else is in that motor. You could have a hot rod on your hands.

I have no clue what else is in the bike lol, the heads says jegs racing on them on the very top of the head, there is an aftermarket ignition, dual plugs head, better coils. The guy I bought it from said there might be head work done but not sure what but it's fast as hell. I been doing some research and the parts are off a 1989 fxrs, from what I read on Google is that 90's part won't fit onto a 83 only till 89, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong

Any later stuff can be used if they changed the whole assemblies for compatibility, what you read was about mixing and matching parts of assemblies , that clutch pack was used on 90 and later bikes and the side cover on the trans tells me it's either aftermarket or post 1990 also. What till a couple of the other heads in here chime in and verify the date's to be sure some of these guys are more up on the evo stuff than I am.

1989 was the first year for those parts / 88 was the last of the shovel type starting systems - inner outer primarys and all the stuff you pictured as well as the starter all changed on the big twin, sporty did it on the iron head end years but not the big twin till 1989, they changed it again 93 but you have 89 stuff = its actually a common up grade as all of it is better then what we had in shovel starting systems

UPDATE UPDATE
So I bought a 89 starter its a arrowhead 2.0 kw with new starter, solenoid, and housing, and it fits on perfect but the same problem is happening as soon as the pinion gear contacts the ring gear it won't turn it's hooked up to a 600 CCA battery. I'm starting to think the engine is seized or the walls got washed. I took both spark plugs out put the bike in 5th gear and it rolls like three feet and stops I can hear the compression but should it only roll a few feet and stop like that or should it keep rolling?
