stop your whining again

5L I did not look it up don't recognize it usually don't buy S&S for a stock stroke but I will look it up and not just guess

the jugs are 80 inch re pops nothing wrong with that, but max bore would be .030 - in a chevy 350 V8 it changes the cubes only 5 CU inches to bore it .030 to 355 -- so nothing really

knowing they make .040 pistons for 80 inch I don't use them that thin in the bores - just so you know a 74 - 3 7/16 jug bored to .060 becomes a 3 1/2 bore < 80 inch standard bore

and a .030 piston 80 inch is .090 over in a jug that is in a 74 / 80 engine case set with the same spicket diameter - you would be seeing windows in the bore if it were to be bored to 3 5/8 for a 96 inch

Does the. Pistons have any visible markings that you can see with the scope to identify it?

Why don't Ya take a look see...(with the scope Ya prolly already bought lol)
Are all Shovel pistons the same..or..are there hi compression, low compression..can one use google images to help determine
brands/types by comparing the tops...etc.
Are Ya interested in how the cylinder walls look..and the valves/seats..
The engine case information is pretty much explained here,
https://www.stddevelopment.com/index...id=6&Itemid=13
Yours started life as Part No. 1976 (Standard through 3 13/16" Bore)
Your heads are dual plugged... so with any luck the builder was trying for a reliable engine, rather than a hot rod..and knew what they were doing.
This would explain why the standard stroke S@S wheels.
First built in 1988 or 89 judging by the date on your receipt.
Have fun with the new scope..can You imagine the things one can look at?

Thanks. One things I will look at is my garbage disposal (and no, I am not talking about my bike) which is making a weird noise.. I will look into this cylinder/piston mystery and take some pics if I can figure it out.

Still waiting for the scope so took the bike for a short 10mile ride to check my rear tire install and to determine if anything needed adjustment.

Rear wheel good so time to replace the front which I already have.

oil temp went up to 150 so also good.

motor runs great and idles fine. Shifts as it should. No pops or hesitation.

only thing to address which was present since I had the bike is minor oil leaks. Small spots of oil on garage floor. I already looked for the source but did not see anything obvious. (Already replaces the return hose which was one of the obvious leaks)..Not sure where the rest is coming from so gotta look a bit closer It was in the ground behind the rear cylinder so may one of the hoses to the back of the crankcase. Also oil running along the left frame and drips near the swing arm.
