I am trying to verify the cam on my 82 Shovel FXR. Anyone have any ideas. The dotpeen stamping on the cam is 3B996. It could be 38996.

Andrews B is an old design and yea it gets the job done BUT they make a BH for hydraulic lifters the plain B is a solid cam you did not say what you have

This bike has a 98" big bore stoker with solid lifters. Fresh rebuild on the motor, but it has been sitting for some time, the best I can tell. I had a local shop verify the 98" crank and perform a leak down check for me last year. The results of the leak down test was 5% on the front and 3% on the rear. I love the bike, but I am having a hard time justifying having it not ridden much. Considering selling it, but I wanted to confirm the cam setup.

Andrews B is small for a 98 inch motor - different equipment you get different results in a leak down - i would not be happy 3 and 5 percent on my equipment but again different in pressure has an effect and gage quality has an effect and what did they do with adding oil or not - lots a parameters in play

on my equipment 3 and 5 would tell me the piston to wall clearance is too tight and or the rings gaps are too small as well or even total seal rings that are a no go for me - we would go looking - but again thats my equipment in my shop not the one you went to

so get it running and ride it then if its not you sell it
