Hey. I would start with brand new spark plugs. I had it die on me on bike running... It stalled and i couldnt start back up. Also my neighbor's coil died him ridding, so coil would be the second thing i would check. Not sure, but i think you can check it with multimeter. Hopefully my thoughts will help you.
Good luck

Could be a lot of things.

Do you know if it had spark when it died? Sounds dumb but if it stops like your saying then it would be good to know if stopped because it has no spark, or it could have stalled for a lack of gas. By that I mean the gas may be in the tank but is it going through the carb?

Simple things first.

How long ago was it that it ran fine?

Did you store it for more than a 30 days?

Do you use gas stabilizer?

Is this a points and condenser ignition system?

Do you have the repair manual?

If it sits for a while it'll start then die, and no spark again

I'd start with checking your ground connections from the battery and around the black box for the ign. , clean them anyway it's a good thing for a older bike just for general maint. From there could be the coil heats up and drops out or the ign. sensor if it's stock they had a problem doing that . I'd also just to be safe pull the fuel line and see what kind of flow rate you have , sitting dry lets rust flakes form and they can block the in tank screen on the petcock , also seen the vent caps plug up and stop gas flow you'd be amazed were a freaking spider will call home . It's un related to spark I know but a possible problem anyway .
