Default What I learned today that's related to audio

If you hook up the power/ground/remote backwards you will blow a fuse. If you replace the blown fuse with a bigger fuse your amp will smoke.

Biketronics has the best customer service of any motorcycle audio retailer.

Focal PC 165's can't handle 200w, tweeter went bye bye

The Rockford Fosgate TM400x4 pigtail can be a finicky thing, it can act like your input signal is fubar when it's really not.

Titan II's can hit hard if you cut back some treble and crank up the EQ on the TM400x4

Titan II's can be heard at 90+ with only 100w to them

This mockup (I didn't want to cut the headlight tabs just yet so I made cutouts ) shows that a 4.75”w x 1.5”h x 10.25l” amp will fit in the fairing of a Road Glide.

Fun times I tell you!

So you don't feel bad. I've learned all those lessons probably in the same manner you just did.

Just not all on the same day!!!

Fun times man.

That sucks. If it's any consolation I screwed up a little myself today. Apparently between the 6 screws that hold the lid to the saddlebag/support, 2 of them are not machined screws. I noticed this after stripping one of the machined screw holes and one of the non machined holes. So let's hope the lid is supported enough for highway speeds, especially since there is a Moto 6x9 in it now lol.

Don't those tweeters have a protection in the xover? Ohm them before deciding they are trash. Most xovers have that built in. I know mine do.

Definetely something gone bad in it, I swapped them side to side still no tweeter. Replaced it with a Titan II and had tweeter, tested the Focal one more time, still no tweeter.

Going to try and see if Focal will warranty it, worth a try

I don't feel so bad now The speakers I blew were not as spendy as yours

Thanks for the relief Bunker. I smoked all 4 of my tweeters on my Kappas AGAIN.(2nd time) . I literally blew the capacitors and saw the smoke come out of the fairing at 70mph which scared the hell out of me.
The woofers are ok so I am going to just to run some external tweets for the time being until I can get a couple more side jobs under my belt and get a set of Moto 602s.
Good luck on the warranty

Thanks for sharing the lessons learned Bunker.

Here's a pic of a 1000D installed on RG.

Here is a few pics of the ES60CV Components I got. The xover has a built on tweeter protection and they are convertibles.
