Wow, that's some good insight. I've got this '72 Sporty in my garage, have owned it for 20 years, runs good, perhaps I should just bob it out and be done with it. It's already 75% there...
Doh! Dude! You're already there! Lol! That bike is perfect for your project! Looks like the healthier version of the one I just sold, chrome and all.

Nah. Ironheads are still a dime a dozen. Besides, his is far from original. Sure, he can start buying up parts to bring it back to original on Ebay with the change left over from buying a six pack, but as long as he leaves the frame alone it can always be brought back to stock.

Don't that one is perfect. And there going to go up in value similair to the old stock triumphs someday soon. I want another ironhead and prefer 74 and eirlier ones. Or if I can ever aford a 83xr1000

That's an interesting perspective; since I bought the Road King in 2004 I've hardly ridden the Sporty (surprise, surprise) but haven't had the heart to part with it cause it wouldn't fetch much $$$ so I keep it on a trickle charger and buy a new battery every 3 years so I can ride it a few times a season to keep the internal parts moving. Never heard anyone ever say (other than my 92 year old father) that the Sporty would yield a decent buck in the future.

It might. Just the way a Pinto or Vega fetches some $$ these days. They were ****, and as such, hardly any are left, making them more valuable. But the truth is the Ironheads are not the greatest bike in the world and still plentiful. They make good noise and lend well to nostalgia. One can do a great bobber build based on an Ironhead, but still retain originality in a cardboard box for later. Just don't chop the frame, which isn't a bobber thing anyway. It's all bolt on, so no diminished value.

Have you seen any iron head sportys with wide glide front ends on them? I know springer is most logical for bobber, but curious how a wide glide front end would look on an iron head? would it be too big? dwarf the rest of the bike???
