Fixed the fuel gauge in my combo analog tach/digital speedo by cutting off the connector under the seat and wiring the black and red-yellow wires together. I didn't get back into the setup menu to set the tank size because I'll have to take my ignition switch apart to wire the switch for accessory on only. The fuel gauge is accurate but after a tank and a half I don't have a miles-remaining value showing yet. I'm going to wait until that displays a value (and proves to be wrong) before I bother setting tank size. Hell, for all I know 3.3 is the default and it's already right 😉

By the way, that idiot "previous owner" that everyone is always bitching about for cutting up harnesses? Yeah, that's me 😜 I'll get my bike buried with me so none of you have to deal with it!

I bought a cheapo shop tach/hours meter and hooked it to my Sporty. I was curious what the idle was set at and to see how high I was revving between shifts. I wired the gauge up under the speedo and all you need to hook it up is wrap a wire around the #1 plug wire a few turns. It is slow to react, and not very precise, but I can tell I'm idling around 900 and shifting way below 5000. I thought I was taching a lot higher. Oh well, it cost about $10 from China.

Sorry...I'm lost here...

You have the HD tach/combo gauge?
You now have the fuel gauge working less the tank sending kit to make it work?
By simply McGiver'ng wires under the seat?
What year Sportie?

THANKS!

No, I installed the tank sending kit when I installed the guage, but it wasn't working. The problem was with the plug that comes with that kit to cross two wires.. I fixed it by cutting that connector off and splicing the wires together.

Took a ride with my club this weekend about 250 miles. Longest run so far on my 2007 Low. Was a mixture of back roads and highway. She's a pretty comfy ride although I did bottom out my shocks a couple of times. She has the wider seat. Loves to run between 60 and 70 but I need to get the Powervision as I've added slip ons, open AC and Xieds. And a pair of hi-way pegs!

I used this:
James Gasket Exhaust Port Gaskets 17048-98
$12.73 on Amazon.com (
Amazon Amazon
)
Used a length of 1.5'' ID PVC pipe to push them in place.
