Default Solo Seats... show me what you have and why you like it.

I have been looking for a good solo seat since my wife has her own bike. What are some of your personal experiences with them. Which ones do you like? Which ones do you not like and I should stay away from? I'm relatively tall 5'11 so I should really have a problem with most of them from what I understand.

Mustang Wide tripper or vintage solo.
I used to use the wide tripper for day to day and the vintage solo for when I was out on tour for a week. Now I just leave the Vintage Solo on.

I have a wide, vintage butt, so the Mustang Wide Vintage seat is a good fit. It has held up very well, 35k/6 years on the seat and it still looks great. That pic is older, but no real change in appearance.

We have two basic options: looks or comfort. On the comfort front the Mustangs shown above are popular in here, as is the Sundowner. For looks, there is an almost endless choice!

I agree with GRBrown - it's a balance of looks vs comfort. My seat (while still a two up) is really thin on padding, but I've never found it uncomfortable. That said, I picked it based solely on looks (wanted King/Queen style) and actually had to hack away some of it, and DIY a bracket to make it fit (swap meet special and not designed for my bike).

My .02 cents - avoid the "sprung" solo seats with the springs/suspension built in since you have rear shocks. Whenever I see a bike (and there's plenty) with a sprung seat coupled with a rear suspension it reminds me of a goofy "dad" wearing both suspenders and a belt.

ive had the sundowner and the stock and the Lapera bare bones.

Sundowner is the best for comfort, worst for looks
Stock is the worse for comfort, ok for looks.
Lapera bare bones is the best for looks, 2nd best for comfort (still beats the stock seat for comfort)

honestly it depends, if you only take rides that are 2 hrs max....then go for the Lapera bare bones. If you go on rides any longer than 2 hrs then dont get the lepera. Its just like everyone says, your *** will start to go numb after about an hour in the saddle. You can make it about another hour on it if your lucky. I keep this on my bike since i go on alot of 1 hour after work rides. On the weekends during the summer ill switch out the seat for longer rides.

My bike came with a Mustang Tripper (label says "rolled and tucked"). I don't have enough miles on it to know if I would recommend it.

things I do know: It's firm, not plush at all... which I prefer anyway. It's low profile and doesn't change the lines of the bike. Material feels like quality.

comes with a passenger seat that comes off in 2 minutes, which may never be used

I installed a Drag Specialties Predator extended reach seat a few weeks ago and love it at 6'1", 34" inseam....the bike now fits me right plus when my feet are down they are behind the pegs, felt like a 3/4 scale bike with the stock seat. The foam is very firm but comfortable and has gotten better with a few hundred break in miles. Highly recommended if you are tall and/or have long legs. For 04 up and works with 07-09 bikes with fender mounted ECM's, made in the U.S.
