Have you got a picture of what you had? I have a hard time believing you had a cargo trailer weighing just 40 lbs. The smallest wheels and tires are 10 lbs each. I've got a Harbor Freight chock stand sitting here, new it the box, and that alone is 40 lbs.

Here's the lightest, most stripped down one I've been able to find, searching several sites, and it's 144 lbs:

I've seen many small trailers being pulled, that weren't heavy enough to keep the tires on the ground, so being too light might not be the best to pull. Here's a picture of the one I built last summer using a used trailer and old car topper.

That trailer weighs about 150 from the specs I was reading. Plus the ramp and maybe some diamond plate to cover it. Should be under 200.

N-line trailer recommends no more than 80# gear in their 80# trailer and that to me would be a stretch.
I have a Walls hitch any only towed once. (I can sell it) I would not worry about the hitch , but hurting the bike as above. I think the older frame was better suited for the weight. I liked(had no fears) towing better with my Valkyrie.

IMHO, this sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. One of those "Here hold my beer" moments
