Default Can't see transmission oil level? Remedy.

I see a lot of posts by riders not able to read transmission oil level on dip stick. I solves the problem on my 07 Ultra by drilling 2 small holes (1/16 drill) in the dip stick. I used my drill press. (Be sure to clean out the drill shaving after drilling holes). You will be able to see the level as the oil will fill the holes. With this you can still use your favorite oil. See pictures.

Now that is a great idea. I remember some dip sticks back in the day that had holes like that.

I just changed the transmission fluid with Redline vtwin with shockproof. Looks like pepto bismal. No problem seeing that pink stuff.

Of course after saying that, unless you have a puddle under your bike, the odds of needing to add are very slim. I rarely if at all check it, just change it.

I do like your solutin to the clear stuff though.

I had a hard time reading my transmission level. I had to add 8 oz. I’m thinking of drilling holes. Anybody else try this?

I think its a great idea and a great mod. But there's another way to see the oil clearly. Swipe the dipstick across a paper towel, the oil on the paper towel will show you where it is on the dipstick. Only move the dipstick a tiny bit on the paper towel, while keeping it on the paper towel.

Good recommendation OP. Might do it myself. I check mine maybe once every 1,000 miles. I did add a bit once…maybe the dealer under filled it.
