I can't imagine why you would "cut and glue" something like this. Did you read that somewhere in the internet? Back in the day, when fork boot were first used (at least to my knowledge and experience) it was in motocross to keep dirt off the fork legs and ultimately from damaging the fork seals. Obviously, in the road application it's more of a 'look' thing. I hope the glue holds up and you sealed it well.

Honestly, I wouldn't have thought of sliding them from the bottom either...I wouldn't have thought they would stretch that much. IMO, It's not that hard to slide the fork legs out of the trees and slide them from the top. I guess, as they say "there's more than one way to skin a cat"...

I always remove the tubes from the tree, no stretching required.

I've done cut and superglue on two bikes, lasts forever.

I cut it on the original mold seam, installed and glued. I put the seam facing rear and towards frame so impossible to see unless you get down and look.
