Default Price assist aisle 5 - Confirm I am not nuts

I've been looking for a paint shaker Sportie. Solid mount, Peanut tank - either late Shovel, Evo or possibly early TC. Im willing to take on a project that does not require a motor/tranny job or anything major. Im thinking a solid, clean, running bike would be 3000 to 3700 maybe a little more for a good Shovel. Every POS I looked at was 2500 to 3k as a starting point and these scoots needed WORK. Am I low? Is everyone else crazy?

Bike I looked at today was an 85. Original paint was for $hit, bad tires, untrue rims, mouse eaten seat, very chaffed exposed harness, leaky brakes, bad battery, chaffed cables, pitted chrome - but the motor and trans were strong. The bike belongs to a friend of a friend and quote - 'He wants to get rid of it'... I ask how much he wants, I get a firm 3500.00. I was told 6 or 7 guys saw the bike and offered 1000.00 or so.

Am I nuts? Is everyone else nuts? Or did prices jump and I didnt know it?

You're not nuts.
When you want to buy it, everything cost $3500.
Once you own it, it's worth $1000.
The end.

I'd pay big money for a TC Sportie.

Wait until the end of April. Bike week seems to be the reason here for markups around here. Craigs list usually has a ton of good condition Sporty's for under $3000. I have no idea where you are but there are a few in the Orlando area. I tried to find "big blue marble" but google couldn't find it.

I've never seen or heard of a Shovel or Twin Cam Sportster! No wonder they want so much for them! They're a rare breed! Good luck finding one, since there's no such thing, but if you ever do, post a pic!! LOL

Ok commando - let me be more precise - IRON HEAD, Shovelhead era, TC Era, Evo Era - You knew what I meant. Thank you for your excellence in service. WTF is everyone a smart *** - oh I know, because they can. I know - Its the HDF, I know because you wouldn't know me if you tripped over me...
