I have come across a scorched 883 sportster with big bore kit it was in a garage fire the guy is asking 400 would it be possible to save it from the scrap heap doesn't look like anything is warped but the paint is burnt away

Check out the frame extremely well. If there's no damage to the frame or loss of structural integrity and you can rebuild off it, why not?

I got a 302 Ford engine that was in a fire.That was one of the best engines I ever had.

I'd pass...You don't know about the integrity of the metal parts that may have been tempered from the heat.
That can create a lot of headaches. The pistons could be melted in the cylinders, for example.

I wouldn't touch anything that was in a fire. Even if it wasn't directly affected by the flames it would have been exposed to extreme temperatures which can cause metal fatigue.

First and foremost what is the title status of the bike ?

If the Craigslist ad said "easy fix" it's probably ok.

I don't think that's what they had in mind when they released the "scorched" paint.
