Like the title says... I am getting a new helmet and my old one is ov er 8 years old. What do you all do with the old helmet. I have decided I need to get a new one for safety's sake. Therefore, I don't think it is right to sell it or donate it to goodwill - that just means someone else will end up with a substandard helmet.
What do you think?

 

I replaced one last year and kept it in my storage cabinet. Thinking maybe I would use it..... not! I tossed it this year. Simply put, if you aren't willing to wear it, and you have reservations about someone else using it, why keep it? I would just toss it, walk away, and enjoy your new one!!!

I don’t know of any recycling program for old helmets. If I don’t want anyone else wearing it I cut the straps and put it in the trash.

 

^^^^ Wow, you don't want it and you don't want anybody else to have it. That's sounds pretty stingy. Where's all this brotherhood stuff people keep quacking about?

 

I threw two half helmets in the garbage last year and gave my cousin a nearly 20 year old FF to use when using a snow blower

Won't be long until we be repeating his process again. and probably for the last time

My oldest helmet is 45 years old and I still wear it occasionally. Helmet still has SCCA medical data dated 1974.

How about doing what we in Texas did in 1997 when we repealed the mandatory helmet law - make it a flowerpot?
