Default 83 flht restore

Hello forum, haven't been here in a while and have never been to the shovelhead forum, but I just picked up a project bike and I though I'd share the process and pick a few brains.
This bike was left at a shop, partially dissembled, and never completed.
It appears there has been previous work done, but I just picked it up yesterday and haven't been through the details.
I have all the parts, just need to evaluate if I need to do anything or just reassemble..

First thing is check the VIN
That looks more like an FLT, than an FLHT... 1983 being the first. last, only, Shovelhead FLHT...

If that is enclosed rear chain [should be] better put O.E. Length shocks onto it... or the Chain Boots are gonna suffer destruction... If they have not already...

yea I agree - the chain bath is the tip off to me - and the clutch springs are adjusted incorrect as well

Thanks, I did check the vin a couple places and it comes back as the flht.
Havent gone near the chain yet, the last owner was a shorter woman, so a shop put those shocks on, maybe they shortened the chain too.
The vin is DC which came back as FLHT

I was thinking these were aftermarket, but after some research I've found these are factory or like factory original, Learning more all the time.

for seals we use the blue rubber ones they don't fall off like the tin do so often

the measurement on the clutch is in the book and your spring nuts by eye are to tight making the clutch lever too tight to pull - it should be just over an inch

Thanks for The input, I dont have "the book" but i do believe the lever is too firm. As for the guide seals, I did see the rubber ones and thought they wouldn't be secure enough... the ones on there are very tight; but I havent found any online that are the same size. The guides measure 5/8"
