Default Headed west.

Left home this morning at around 9am. It was time to get away from Illinois for awhile.

The sun was out at home, but not in Red Wing Minnesota, which was our intended destination. We called an audible and hit Hwy 64 and headed into iowa.

We stayed away from the interstate, except for a couple miles, when i got sick of business 150 and scooted down to US 30. We made our way to Ames iowa, and made our first dealer stop.

The folks here were very nice. We picked up the obligatory $30 tshirt and headed off to Fort Dodge Iowa, via the back roads.

There were storms to the south, and north, and it looked like we were riding into rain. We got hit by sprinkles in Podunk Iowa, so we suited up. It never rained hard, just a few minutes of the light stuff. The lightening and unstable weather mafe picking Fort Dodge as our stopping point, an easy decision.

We decided to eat where the locals eat.

It was very tasty. Nice place, nice staff, just one screaming kid i could have done without. He and his family need a lesson in manners.

We didnt log alot of miles, but it was 98 degrees at times, with killer humidity, so i didnt want to make the wife sick of riding on day one.

I'm not sure where I'm headed tomorrow, other than towards the Rocky Mountains. I'll do a weather check in the morning and go from there.

Best kind of road trips are those with no particular destination.

If you're new to riding out "on the prairie"...especially if you dodge the interstate as much as possible, keep in mind that gasoline isn't NEARLY as universally available 24/7 out there as it is in Illinois.
Otherwise..ENJOY.
Oh, and btw...another tip I learned the hard way...those really tall buildings you see out on the horizon are NOT hi-rise Condos, like we have down here in Florida lining the beaches.
Turns out they're full of corn (who knew..??), and don't mean you've found "Civilization"..!!!

You’re doing it the right way in my opinion. Miles ain’t what it’s about, take your time and enjoy whatever riding you do each day. I’m looking forward to reading about your trip. Nice looking scooter BTW.

Those are grain elevators and mean you have found a town. Doesn't always mean it has gas or food though!

Sometimes it's like that old saying, It's not the destination, it's the journey.

In our opinion it’s the only way to fully experience an adventure!

My my wife and I have an area we head towards but that’s about it ,

Subscribing for the ride!

My favorite motorcycle trips were all done with no planning other than a general direction. Make it up as you go along. Enjoy.

I have done a lot of riding, but never set out just in a general direction. I guess I need to try it sometime. Have fun, enjoy your time off and safe travels. Keep the pics coming.
