Default Found a 1982 FXRS, all original

I've been looking for an 82 FXR for a few years now and have come across another 82 FXRS. I want an 82 because it's the first year and has a shovelhead. I don't plan on it being my every day bike, just something to mess with but keep original. I believe these 82's should be preserved, I think they are special. Does anyone agree??
This one has under 13K miles on it. Garage kept, newer battery kept on charge, meaty tires, very clean looking from what I can see from the pictures. The guy is only the second owner, had it since 1998 and still rides it once in a while to keep it fresh. He says he has all the original parts, even bolts that he repl

Those are great bikes. One of MoCos better ideas for sure IMHO anyway.

Good for you on keeping it original. It can only be original once.

Sweet looking ride! Not asking what you'd pay, not asking what he's asking, but ..... what's a bike like that worth?

I also waited for my 82 FXR for the same reasons. I bought off a guy from work who had it since 1989, possibly the second owner too. I'm doing a total rebuild to make it as original as I can. Good luck with yours, I hope it treats you well.

Bought the bike and got her home. Wasn't as nice as the pictures showed. Some scratches on the fenders, chipped paint on the calipers, wrinkle black on the engine, etc are more a gray with a little rust. She's running a little rough too. I'm hoping it's just the carb from sitting so long. Pops now and then through the carb and starts to stumble. I took her on a 7 mile test run after changing out the gas. Did not stall, popped a little when slowing down, backfired through the carb occasionally. Front brakes are a little scary. I ordered a rebuild kit. She has a Mikuni HSR 42 on her. Pics to come soon, I've been running around like crazy.

I'm welcome to any cleaning suggestions, like getting 40 years of wax and grime build-up off, and cleaning the wrinkle black, and especially getting her running smooth.

Love the all black. And the original seat. I have mine but one of the bolt holes for the latch in the seat pan is stripped. Got to fix that before I put it on. Don't want to mess it up any more than it is.
