Gotta ? about riding boots, with forward controls on my 21 street bob 114, up to this point ive been riding around with a pair of slip-on shoes which slide in between the shifter lever and peg quite nicely. I am scheduled for June to participate in the MSF Course to get my motorcycle license, and i purchased cheap non steel toe work boots for class. But the boots get hung up on the pegs when i have to put the boots on the ground, i tried to adjust the lever up one groove but its a tad bit high when i down shift. So im trying to decide on which riding boots i wanna spend money on, but do have my sites on Harley scout boots with the zipper. Just curious on what boots others are using with forward controls ?.

 

Wear a comfortable pair of hiking boots or boot type tennis shoes. You want to have them prior to the class so you can wear them enough to break-in so they are comfortable. You will be doing low speed maneuvers on the bike, I don't think they are going to expect you to have heavy duty riding boots. You can bring riding boots with you and leave them in the car just in case. I wore these about 5 years ago when I did the class with my son. I still wear these alot, they are really cool in the summer, offer ankle support and good traction.

 

Feet are one of the most-frequently-injured body parts in wrecks. I only wear boots that are "made for the ride"; I wouldn't want to be caught in cowboy boots or something like that when you hit the pavement. And having a hurt foot or two absolutely rains on your parade, you never know how important mobility is until you lose it.

But whatever you do, yes, you have to be comfortable in them and well versed in them long before you go taking the MSF course or anything like that.

Since it is for riding a softail, don't worry about, not like you are going to put a lot of miles on. Now if you want something good, post in touring section. Ha

 

I have Harley Macleod lace up boots and they are very comfortable. I use them on long rides , for short trips I use sneakers but I ride a trike. Just make sure they are comfortable for. If they aren’t comfortable they aren’t worth a damn.

 

They do require boots for the class. What type is up to you. Personally I've been wearing Rocky Alpha Force for almost 10 years. They are extremely comfortable, have an awesome grip on the road and have a side zipper so easy off and on. Yes they are hot to wear in the summer. Not so much on the bike but walking around at outdoor stops. So are jeans but I wear the proper gear so it is what it is.

On my Heritage, there are adjustments that can be made for the shifter if you need more or less room underneath for your boot. Yours may have that too.

 

TCX makes some great motorcycle boots that meet Euro standards which are fairly stringent. Go for the most comfortable, safe boots you can afford. Being a new rider, you should consider safety seriously….

 

Agree, I wear TCX Drifters, definitely not a HD look but I don't care, comfortable, water resistant and resoleable which I've had done once. Don't know if this model meets any Euro standards though...
