Default oildipstick gearbox on 2026 trikes

Dear Streetglide 3 riders, according to Harley rules, if you want to check and top up the gearbox oil, you have to remove the side cover, top up the oil there, and check the level. This is incorrect, because there is simply a dipstick there. If you want to access it, look at the photo I provided; you can use it to read the oil level and top it up. This applies to both trikes, the Streetglide and the Roadglide. This saves you a lot of extra work.

Default Confusion

I think your manual is referring to the primary case where the access is through the side cover for checking and filling. The gearbox dipstick has always been in the location your showing.

The side cover, (refered to over in the USA as the Derby Cover) is on the left side of the bike is the primary clutch cover on the primary cover..

Unless you see fluids leaking, the primary is rarely checked. And you don't fill it up. It's up to the outer edge of the diaphragm clutch spring.

And there are an array of different clutch spring configurations posted on here that can be extremely confusing.

It's also hard to see down in there.

Just a suggestion but the pictures you attach here should be saved as a copy. That way they don't attach here rotated like the originals.

I'm looking at the 2026 service manual trike supplement. You must remove transmission end cover to check oil level. it shows the fill level that h-d recommends. It does not refer to a tranny dipstick that i can find. The original poster shows pics of the tranny dipstick. My dealer told me it had a tranny dipstick but it was somewhat difficult to access, & even mor difficult to add oil when due. I believe the original poster is correct.

Also Ben states that h-d's way is incorrect, which is not completely true. You just have two different ways of doing it.

The dipstick is plastic. According to the below post on the Trike Talk forum, HD reps at a demo event claim the plastic dipstick is not designed to be removed/reinserted and will eventually break if used frequently.

I`m very skeptical of a dispstick that is not supposed to be used, that sounds too much like 3rd hand information from a 2nd hand rumor.
