'15 Breakout Purchase - New to HD - Any Input Appreciated
Finally broke the seal at 60 yrs and picked up my first HD today after a lifetime of riding Japanese cruisers, sports and dirt.
Real excited about the switch and this particular bike.
She's a one-owner 15 FXSB with only 3700 miles. Sat in prior owner's garage here in Flagstaff AZ and is immaculate aside from a few tiny dings and 1 or 2 hairline nicks from having too many other toys in the garage next to it for 11 years (one of which is an equally immaculate restomod '66 Nova almost same color that I drooled over). Only thing he had to do was grab a new AGM battery as the original was tapped out. She fired right up, runs strong.
As a new HD'er I'm open to what y'all would do in my shoes as next moves re maintenance, checks, etc. The closest HD is Buddy Stubbs 2 hours south in Phx which is where he bought it. For 11 years old, the Dunlop rubber looks good - Flagstaff is dry but not too dry, moist but not too moist so no apparent rotting. As I say everything top to bottom looks like new but I'm aware of basic concerns esp the rubber and that should go on the top of the soon-to-budget for replace.
I'm an ex bike builder myself but no longer have the shop or most of the tools and to be honest I've lost some of the enjoyment of doing the work. As long as it doesn't break the bank, let a pro do it while I spend time w friends, the dog, a beer bottle, etc. Thinking at least, trailer her down to Stubbs for fluid flushes/change....what else should I know about HD maintenance with this, expectations etc? What kind of hourly do you guys see at your HD shops?
Nice bike. I'd have the tires replaced, flush and change the brake fluid. Change all 3 fluids and filter and you should be good to go. I'd be looking for a independent HD mechanics shop. The indie will probably save you over a 1,000 bucks vs the dealer. I'm sure somebody on here uses a indie in your area they can recommend. I just had new tires, new brakes installed with the brake fluid replaced and bleed at my indie for $925 that's on my 07 Fat boy. Rides a lot better now. Enjoy the new bike.
