S&S Quickee Puchrod Adjust for 505/515 cam
I have a 2002 sportster 883 that has had the 1200 conversion. It still has the 883 heads with STD pistons. There is a 505/515 cam that was installed recently. If I was to install S&S quickee pushrods in place of the original pushrods, would the adjustment be the same. Their website says 4 complete turns on adjustment. I'm assuming that's with a stock cam. Seeing that I have a 505/515 cam in the motor, does this adjustment still apply? I know there was mention that piston to valve clearance was close with that cam. I don't want to make a mistake and not adjust them properly and cause a valve to hit the piston.
Pretty sure 505/515 cams are bolt-in on 2000+ Sportsters (pre-2000 needs a pinion change) and I think Hammer recommends that cam as a good cam when using stock 883 heads. You shouldn't need to do anything additional with a bolt-in cam. I think the TDC lift on those cams is well under the 0.200 that Hammer recommends you stay under to avoid clearance issues. There is no need to change pushrods and I would highly recommend against replacing the stock solid pushrods with adjustable ones. Your just adding an additional point of failure, a possibilty of incorrect adjustment, and another place for oil to leak out. Basically, a lot of potential headache for no real benefit.
