Heat it up with a hair dryer and start peeling back. The paint will be fine

Just don't rush it... I did and as a result I spent a fair bit of time having to get rid of the sticky residue which was a nightmare.

I just peeled mine off when I bought the bike new. Took it slowly and it came off in one piece. I stuck it to a piece of vinyl backed paper for future use. Harley sells them so I saved mine but it will probably never see my fender again as my wife won't ride.

Hair dryer. Then use goo gone to clean up the mess.
Mine is still sticky and reusable for the rare occasion my wife gets on.
