The day the softail died, and the moco lost its mind.

Well, I actually bought one. I feel the quality was nudged up. I don't have to spend money on suspension mods and the stock power is pretty awesome too. This is my second HD and I don't feel they turned their back on me. There's no bike I'd rather have. This is a better Softail. Not 100% sold on the smaller tank from a range perspective but I get "beautiful ride" comments everywhere I go. And after 150 miles it's time for a stretch anyway. Obviously it wasn't a deal-breaker for me. So I guess I don't agree. Mine is every bit a Harley-Davidson as yours. A 2018, to be sure. Not everyone's fav, but it's mine. Ride on!

That's a sharp looking bike. Much better looking than how it looks on Harley's website.

Tank might be OK, the M8 is more frugal with fuel than the twin cam.

I looked up "Abortion" in the dictionary today...the definition showed a picture of the 2018 lineup of Softails.
Gorgeous... and yeah, it would look like **** with the new swingarm style. That and WTF is with the missing heel/toe shifter?

What makes you come to your conclusion?
Chain driven camshafts are still a very common technology multiple combustion engines. The are in fact a sound and very reliable technology. E.g. Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, both well nown for their sophisticated and reliable engine builds still use cam chains, even with their high performance engines.
Especially the guys having ridden their TC engines for more than 100k or even 150k miles can approve for that. The issues with failing tensioners have long been solved by switching from mechanical to hydraulic tensioners.
Plus the balancers on your Breakout are far more noisy than your cam chain is. If you listen carefully you'll find that most of the rattling and hissing sound comes from the left side of your bike.
Gear drives are more complicated to manufacture and thus significantly more expensive while adding nearly no benefit to street bikes.
