It keeps the gas from turning into Sh** and making your wallet get lighter from repair bills. Yeah thats it, Stick it to your local friendly dealership. By the way is it Longhorn or Ft Worth you use or another. Just asking cuz I would like to see how you are treated. May make me change mine

Just crank it up once a week or so and let it idle for 5 or 10 minutes. PURPLE HAZE.

there's no such thing as "winter storage" in texas.
Winter in Texas is when the temps dip below 60F for more than 3 days in a row.

For any of you folks who want to avoid having to 'winterize' your bikes, you can send them out here and I'll be sure they get out to play regularly

One of the best justifications for the high cost of living here - we can ride, fish, golf, etc. year-round. Gotta have some reasons to put up with the traffic and smog!

No worries for you, Warg - unless you have to park it for a couple of months or so, just take the measures discussed above and you'll be golden.

Thanks guys, I will get a battery tender.

Anotherquestion about the Stabil...
Is it only used when it's cold, or anytime the bike is going to sit for a month?

I gotta throw the BS flag here. I was in Ft Worth in 2005 and saw 2 pretty good ice storms and if memory serves the wind seemed to blow every dang day. plenty cold in the Lonestar State.

Warg - as far as I recall, it isn't about the temperature but the length of time the vehicle sits... it prevents/delays the gas from gunking up the carburator and fuel system.

You are right my friend, the Dallas/Ft. Worth area has had some bad winters the last few years.
I'm about 3 hours south and we only get a trace amont of snow every 15 years.

Lived in Maine for 5 years.

Fresh oil change
full take of gas (with stable)
remove battery or tender (but keep from freezing)
most important if your bike will be off for a few months, spray fogging oil in each jug.

I live in VA now and even if I don't ride for 2 months, the oil maintenance should still be done. Leaving contaminated oil in the bike even after 500 miles is very corrosive in storage.
