Apes - would you do it again?
I am considering a set of Wild 1's 12.5" apes for my Heritage classic. I love the look, but my question is around comfort and handling. Would you buy them again if you were to do it all over again?

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
if I bought a deluxe or something of that style, yes. I had 12" apes on my train and I didn't like the look. It was comfortable, but felt a little less stable at high speeds going over bumps.

Would you buy them again if you were to do it all over again? Replaced them with 16" last year andno more elbow problems. Now I'mthinking maybe I would like to go to 18". Definitely will have at least 16" on any bike I get in the future. I think they handle great. |
RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Would do it again in a heartbeat. The best mod I have done to my Fat Boy. 12.5". Eliminatd my lower back pain and have had no problems with arm / shoulderpain or fatigue and in my opinion the handling has improved.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
I put 16 “Apes on my 07 Custom. I was going to put 18’s on but thought they looked a little too high on my bike. I really like the 16’s, I’m 6’3” and they seem to be just what I wanted, and were more comfortable than the 12.5’s that came with it.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Absofriginlutely :DI have 16"s on the train and 18"s on the old Ironhead and love em [sm=icon_rock.gif]

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Thanks guys, the bikes look great!! I'm only 5'10" and I'm concerned the 16"ers would too tall, that's why I'm leaning towards the 12.5"ers.
|
RE: Apes - would you do it again?
I'm 6' and have 16" bars and could easly go with 18". You should be fine being 5' 10" and going with 16" apes.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Wild 1 12.5's on mine. Would do it again and again....

Yup. Apes are far more comfortable than the stock Night Train drag bars, for me.
Cheers! [sm=icon_rock.gif][sm=icon_rock.gif][sm=icon_rock.gif] |
RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Yep, my 12.5's are way better than stock. I might go to 16's at some point. The apes handle way better than stock bars.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?

To make it simple, Yes. My ride and comfort have improved over the stock bars, but then again, apes aren't for everybody.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Absolutely i would do it again. So much in fact that i was looking into trading my fatboy for either a roadking or street glide.Being that the SG in my opinion is not something i would put apes on. i will probably opt for a roadking because i could put apes on.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Yes sir apes take a certain breed you either love em or hate em.Bought my bike with em already installed think mine are 20" everyone said get rid of those bars now that Ive rode it a bunch no way!!Handles good at speeds I control as much with my hips as with the bars. And remember if your hands aint above your shoulders they aint apes![sm=smiley20.gif]

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Yes I went from stock buckhorns to 12"s then 18"s and now have 20"s. I tried riding my friends sportster with 12"s and brought it straight back because the bars wer etoo short.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
I have 20" apes on my 98 Fatboy. Love 'em. Then again I'm 6'7";)Don't understand those that say their arms go numb. 3 trips in the past 5 years to Sturgis (1,600 miles one way) no problems.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Love my apes. They are 16". The ONLY regret is when I am on a major highway and doing 70 or over. The wind wears me down. I feel like I'm a flag in the wind. Secondly, the wind seems to make my frontwant to shimmy. I never had that until I added the apes. I can't get the bike in 6th gear for very long. I little movement at the wheel is a big movement at the grips.

And yes, I would do it again. 12.5 on my Heritage.... I might even go higher later this year. |
RE: Apes - would you do it again?
I put the HD fat apes on my bike and wished I had gone taller.I think the factory ones are 10.5.Im 6ft and could easily go higher.

RE: Apes - would you do it again?
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
|
RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Yeah I get a little wobble at speeds, but I have the narrow front tire ,nothing scarry, the other aspects outweigh this though I find them comfortable and they look cool when cruzin'
|
RE: Apes - would you do it again?
Oh yeah and as far as feeling like a kite at speeds, at 250+ I feel secure in the saddle:DTakes alot of wind to lift that much dead weight:)
|
RE: Apes - would you do it again?
I only have the 12.5s, but love them. Had a tendency to slouch with lower bars. With these, no slouch, and no back pain.
|
RE: Apes - would you do it again?
16's on my Heritage, I'm 5'10 and love em. I say keep the floor boards and thier even better. I'm working on Memeory Foam right now, and I'll be ridinga Lazy Boy..
