Carlini Gangster Apes 18" 1.50 Thick

Can anyone here give me some technical advice? I am trying to change out my handlebars on my 2005 Fatboy. I want to get the 18" Carlina Gangster Apes. Their page won't give you any advice on length of cables to get. Has anyone out there put a set on for their Fatboy? I want to order Magnum Shielding cables, but am not sure of the lengths I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and keep it vertical!

Benny

Hehehe... you're lucky today bro. Check it out this is my exact order from magnum shielding for my 18" Carlini flyin' apes which I mounted on my Fatboy.

It is a copy-paste order mate,

Make sure you post some pics after the install.

Mimo.

Thanks for the info on that, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I have to ask though..... My Gangster Apes have that curve in them, will that make me have to add an inch or two to accomodate that...??? Do you have any pics of your bike with your cables on it? Did you have to buy clamps for the cables as well or did they fit just right?

My apes have the same curve but outwards ;) You should be just fine. Here you go:

I hope this will suffice, I know that it can be a PITA measuring your lenghts when you don't even have your h-bars to present them on the bike (that was my case), I did it the hard way but there is no reason for you to do the same thing if I can help.

Mimo.

mimo 08-23-2009 01:42 AM

I only clamped the clutch cable in the same spot that comes clamped from factory (left side of the bike to the frame) no other clamps needed and neither scratches on some slick looking bars.

Thanks Mimo, I will be placing my order first thing tomorrow. I appreciate the help and will post my pics as soon as I get them mounted on my Fatboy.

Mimo, I finally got my Gangster Apes put on..... I ordered the 18"s and used the cable lengths you sent. I think it all looks great! Thanks for all of your help! So what do you think? It's my 2005 Fatboy with Road King leather bags.

Looks good, but man they look tall in the first pic. How tall are you and where do they sit? Chin of shoulders?

mimo 09-11-2009 10:37 AM

It looks awesome Benny, Dang the Gangsters actually look taller that the Flyin' apes... I really like the sissy bar too. Your Fat Boy looks great, what can I say on top of all... it is silver :D I'm glad the info was helpful.

Ride Safe,

Mimo.

Benny1970 09-12-2009 01:10 AM

Reino 79, they definitely are tall, but then again I have them rolled forward just a bit. I love the way they feel when I am riding though. I had my 16" Chubby Apes pushed forward before these as well. I think these may be more than 18" though. I am 6'1" so they aren't too far out there for me. They actually sit just above my shoulders. I will post a pic of me riding it when I can get someone to take a pic on a ride sometime.

Benny

Benny1970 09-12-2009 01:14 AM

Mimo, the Gangster Apes look bigger on mine because I got the 1.50 inch around and 18" set. I love the way they look and feel. I wish I could post bigger pics here to really give the whole thing it's due justice. It looks great in person! Thanks for all the info on getting the right size cables. You helped me out a ton! If we ever cross paths, I will get you a few cold ones on me. I have had the sissy bar a while now, and I was waiting for just the right set of bars to set it off. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!! Thanks again!

Benny

Reino_79 09-13-2009 12:29 PM

Benny, thanks for the info.

Ride on Benny! now put those armpits to dry on the highway ;)

Stay healthy mate,

Mimo.

Do ya have pics with the 16's on there? I've debated getting bars for my Fattie, but I don't want real high ones.

Well here is a pic of the 16" Chubby's I had on before I put on the Carlini 18" Gangster Apes. They were cool too..... Not much difference really, just a better look with the curve to be honest.

Slayer dude 09-16-2009 06:00 PM

Awesome, Can you post a picture with you on it? Seem very tall, just curious.

pearlandhd 10-15-2009 09:22 AM

Yeah, post a pic with you on the bike. The bars look way cool.

I't would be great to see the hand position. I'm 6"2 and was considering 16" apes. Your pic will help me decide height!

Thanks

Flyin Apes

thinking about doing the same. did you have to change out your risers and such?

DR. V-TWIN 02-08-2010 08:44 PM

If you do the Carlini 1.5" bars you need to change risers. They make a really nice riser called the Diamond. If you get the 1.25" bars you can get them either stepped down at the risers or not, depending on your preference. If you need discount pricing from Carlini let me know. We are direct with them and Mark takes good care of us. They are relatively local to us.

Not on the bike. I'll throw the bars in a bag over my shoulder and be back in 45 minutes. LOL.

Yeah, blessed be CA and lega "in-between" riding.

Mimo.

DR. V-TWIN 02-08-2010 11:52 PM

Lane splitting is good, but there is a carpool lane all the way down the 405 as well. If there is a traffic jam, then split between the carpool lane and the fast lane. That can get sketchy.

Yeah, I forgot about the 405, great thing bikes can get on it (car-pool lane)... :icon_woot:

Wondering if the lengths would be that much different for a 98 Fat? any Ideas? Also might take you up on the Carlini in. Im about 5'10 and thinking the 16's. They had a blemished set that they wanted $250 for.

Bikd 1 02-10-2010 08:47 AM

nice. I love that look.

18" Carlini Gangsta Apes Pics

OK peeps,
Sorry for the delay, but I finally got someone to take a few pics with the 18" Carlini Gangsta Apes.

Let me know what you think.....

Benny

Don't know how to add large size photos..... Hope you can see these OK....

mimo 04-16-2010 01:40 AM

Lookin' good Benny, I really like it's style, like the front fender too, job well done :icon_clapclap:

Mimo.

...and that curve is worth the additional cost. Like you, I had the 'generic' 13" apes. Best thing I did was purchase (via Dr. V-Twin)the Carlini's 16" -1.5" Flyers w/ piston risers.

I'm also 6'1" and the 16's are a pereect height.

Benny1970 04-16-2010 08:44 AM

Thanks

Thanks guys! I got the fender idea after seeing your scoot. I agree, the curve on the bars really makes them stand out, andpeople always come over to ask about them. Always getting approached by people as soon as I roll in to park the scoot.

Benny

J-Train 04-16-2010 09:26 AM

First off sweet scoot and nice ass apes. How tall are you Benny, just trying to get a more accurate size and fit for my train. Just double checking if 18 would be a little to high for me or not, plus I havent really looked to deep into how much these apes are including risers, cables etc...

DR. V-TWIN 04-16-2010 09:38 AM

The Carlini Bars run about 1" taller than the height listed for them. So the 18"'s are really about 19".

Benny1970 04-19-2010 08:24 AM

Well, I am 6'1" and I think the bars are just the right height for me. And you can roll them forward or pull them back t your preference, so that will help as well.

Yes, Dr. V-Twin is correct, the bars do run a little bigger than stated. But hey, I am not complaining, I love the way they feel and the way they look.

As for the cost, the cables cost more than the bars. However, total cost for the bars is more than the cables if you go with the 1.50" due to having to buy the risers for the bars as well.

If I can be of any more help, let me know. Mimo is a great source for info as well, he helped me out jsut about a year ago.

Benny

DR. V-TWIN 04-19-2010 09:33 AM

Well, if you cables from a source who sells them at a discount as opposed to Harley they are about the same price. But, include the new rises and the bars are more, you are right. The Doc sells Carlini's at a discount as well as Magnum Shielding's cables. They are the bomb.

Vermont Bones 04-19-2010 12:41 PM

Doc. What do you suggest for blacked out cables?

Magnum shielding's black pearl cables. They are beautiful. A couple of my good friends recently installed these and they look great. Drew

+1, Magnum did a great job on those...

They look even better in person than in the pics.

Cables

Yes, I have to agree.... I used the Magnum Shielding cables as well.......... Thanks to Mimo, I got hte perfect measurements as well. Just check the previous messages in the thread and you will have the right lengths for your scoot if you use the 18" bars.
