Harley Sound Vs. Metric Sound
I was reading another post comparing Softails to a Honda VTX and I got to thinking. I just bought my first HD within the last year. I moved up from a 750 Honda Aero. I still have not completely gotten used to the different sound of my Fatboy. I guess with the extra cubic inches and torque there is so much more going on.
The engine sounds (not exhaust) are so much more noticable. I don't know if its the valves or what. I even asked a dealer about it when I first got the bike (pre-aftermarket exhaust), and he said that's just "Harley Sound".
Anyway, it's been 6 months and I still notice it going down the road. Maybe that's why they say you can't duplicate a Harley, you can only immitate.

RE: Harley Sound Vs. Metric Sound
I agree. I had BMWs and Hondas and the Harley is just a lot different. The tranny clunks when you shift which is different from the snick, snick of the Honda. The tranny gears and primary make sounds a lot different than the overhead cam sounds of the metric bikes.
The exhaust is where its at! Love that Harley sound. Like an old 1965 Olds 442 with a wild cam installed. Love it!
