Default Handlebar Heaven...'04 Fat Boy

Hey Gang,

Just wanted to let Fat Boy riders know....I just installed Wild 1 model W501 (8" drag bars) and the Sundowner FX (discontinued model) seat.

No more midback pain and I can sit upright!!!! I attribute most of this to the handlebars which increase both rise and pullback by about 1.5-2". Handlebar Heaven....!!! I just rode about 750 miles over 2 days (RT to Watkins Glen, NY) ...stopped every 90 minutes or so to stretch. The bars also improve my control of the bike...

The seat moved me forward a bit, but it's not yet broken in...I expect it will settle a bit. My lady had no complaints about the seat during the 750 miles...

I'm 6'0 tall if that helps....

Check out Wild1's website.

Regards
AlbertG

I know what you mean about the back pain.

Did you have to get new cables?

Glad you found a way to be comfortable. My fattie had 12.5" apes on it when i bought it (used). I have since then installed 16"ers and I am extremely comfortable now. It's almost time to take it on a trip to see how long I can ride for.

Hey Blue Lead,

I used all stock cables and brake line. Just had to carefully bend the brake line to conform with the new bars. Needed to use the dremel tool on the inside edge of the left control module to hone away some material so the module would close properly. Other than removing the tank, it was a relatively easy job... only tedious and time consuming...

...but worth the effort by far...

Albert,

I/ve checked out those bars on the web and they look like what I'm after. Got any pic's of them on the bike you could share?

Thanks,
Randy

Hey Randy,

Sorry...no pics of my bike but I got these off the Wild1 site(hope they attach)...they have a lot of pics with customers bikes...check it out. FBs with W501s. I was intially concerned about changing the classic FB look because I thought the bars looked too high for the bike. So I raised the tank (front) 2" and it fills the void so the bars don't look as high. IMO the 2" lift kit is better than the 3" because it lifts the tank without a dramatic change in appearance...and looks great with these bars.

Good luck...
