Deluxe Front Fender Ideas

I am looking for ideas for the front fender on my 09 Deluxe to give it a more nostalgic look. The HD catalog is kind of limited. If you have pics that would be great.

TattedUp 11-05-2010 12:00 PM

I say keep the fender and put a 21 inch front wheel. I think that look is tits.

Viking66 11-05-2010 12:14 PM

I put a Cabbage Cutter on mine!! :icon_viking:

Absolutely...this is a very classy look.

SMF 11-05-2010 02:07 PM

21" looks clean under that fender

Rogbo 11-05-2010 02:09 PM

Thanks for the ideas folks. The cabbage is a unique idea. The 21" wheel would look kick ass.

Reino_79 11-05-2010 02:23 PM

For a nostalgic look I dont think you want the 21". It depends on where your from I guess but I dont recall seeing and old FL's running around with 21" front wheels. On a fenderless bobber, yes.
As far as the cabbage cutter, I think this is closer to the nostalgic look.
You can also go with the fender rail if you like that. I like that look but others probably dont.

What do you like?

dfndr 11-05-2010 02:35 PM

OK, I must be ignorant.
what is a "cabbage cutter?"

The thingy on the front and rear of viking66's bike.
Here is a vintage one from ebay. Little rusty but you get the idea.

cabbage cutter: looks like this. I think late 50s early 60s bike accessory?

The fender bumper isn't bad. What do they call the one that rides on top of the fender, looks like two chrome rails that run down the middle. Sort of like a miny luggage rack I guess.

Santo 11-05-2010 03:41 PM

Im gonna have to agree with Reino on this one, the 21' looks killer but it's a diffrent look more of a cali style custom vicla. The original 16" wheel looks very nostalgic IMO I would take off the chrome dome salad bowl looking thing. I think they look better with out it.

Viking66 11-05-2010 04:02 PM

Here is a couple of pics of my inspiration

Good looking bike Santo.

Santo 11-05-2010 04:57 PM

Thanks Rogbo.

Hbarleather that springer light on the fender looks tight, I like that. Stupid question but how's it look lit up? Any pics?

Well thank but why you act like its a bad thing to agree with me? haha

When I was having spacer issues awhile back I almost took the salad bowl off. That would of easily solved my issues I had. However, I think the salad bowl is what make the front wheel look nostalgic.

I like the fender light, that is a mod that I'd like to do and eliminate the front light on my heritage. But there is no real options for a 2010. Would anyone know if the fender tip from a deluxe fit on a heritage? Would it cover the front indent where the fender light is currently located?

DR. V-TWIN 11-06-2010 09:07 AM

I prefer the 21" look regardless of whether or not is "nostalgic" looking. I really like the full front fender on the deluxe already and think that it is nostalgic.

As far as what else to do...I am at a loss.

Drew

hbarleatherneck 11-06-2010 09:17 AM

Santo, I will take a picture of it lit up in the dark, and post it.

Maybe a fender spear?

Rockyriver 11-06-2010 10:16 AM

You can install the Stanchions like on my front fender.
Or a Kitchen Sink like someone suggested awhile back.

Love them old "winged speedballs" on Viking66's bike. The Killer & The King must have liked them too. I've got a set on my softail saddlebags. They're polished stainless steel from JP cycles. Were they available with the red reflectors, or is that something I need to find?

SUUIE 11-06-2010 01:27 PM

I almost forgot about the FLSTS light which is available from Harley for much cheaper than they seem to be listed on eBay. I'm planning on that along with the front cabbage cutter / cheese grater.

Here's a link to a replica front cabbage cutter / cheese grater: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

trying to figure out how the picture in my response showed up as a thumbnail instead of full size, trying again

Viking66 11-06-2010 03:41 PM

The "Winged Speedballs" came as on option with my bags. The red circles you see on mine is some red vinyl I got at a Graphics shop.

I have a whole square yard "Minimum purchase" so if you want some let me know, I will send it to you in the mail.

The material is Not Reflective, I didn't want it to be.

It was either a 13/16" or 15/16" socket that made the perfect sized circle.

Thanks for the pics, so you wired it up independently? It has it's own switch? Also, if you wouldn't mind, could you post a night time pic with all of the other lights on as well.

merdahl 11-06-2010 11:13 PM

There is an empty connector on the right side of your gas tank, tucked in. It is for the front fender lite and connected to power thru your ignition switch. Look at the wiring diagram. Your fender light should plug right in.

i found that connector on the left side of my tank, is that the same one?

merdahl 11-07-2010 09:17 AM

Sorry, that connector is on the left side. Not the right, my bad.

Thanks for the pics, that looks really cool I might do that to mine, makes the bike look retro.

Rogbo 11-08-2010 09:35 AM

I like the stanchions Rocky River. Thanks for the pic. I may go with those.

SUUIE 11-08-2010 07:39 PM

Thanks for the extra pics hbarleatherneck. I was trying to decide whether I was going to mount it with or without plugging in the electrical but, based on your 2nd & 3rd pics, it looks like I'll plug the wiring in as well. Notice how the 1st pic makes the light look weak and not match the headlight and auxiliary lights?

hbarleatherneck 11-08-2010 08:42 PM

the first picture caught the flash and bounced off and magnified off the headlight and running lights.
it isnt super bright.

if you buy the springer light from the dealership, also buy the connector for the model year bike you have. but it will be the heritage. flstc connector.

then it will plug right in. i ran an piece of hose under the fender and epoxied it in place. i ran the wire through that to a hole i drilled in the fender right behind the left leg. it is fairly hidden. and i used a rubber grommet for the hole ( i also used some clear coat around the holes, so no peeling paint or rust).

I'm a new member and I'd just like to say thanks to all the posters on this thread for sharing your great ideas and photos; there is some real creativity and imagination on display here. Along with the thread from the poor soul looking for a "sissy boy" for his ride, this is the most entertaining thread I've seen.
