remanufactured engines

Back in '02, I did the Reman engine replacement on my '96 BadBoy. It was $2195.00
for the engine and around $800.00 bucks for the dealer to change it out. Mind you, this
was an 80ci EVO. Around 9000 miles it started seeping oil under the rear head. I didn't
think it was a problem, so I rode it until the warranty was out and it was leaking more oil.
I called the dealer and Harley fixed it under warranty even though it was out at 12,000
miles. It only had 14,000 or so miles on it. The service manager told me Harley was having
trouble with the Reman engines. For a $1,000 or so more dollars I could have gotten a new
Harley engine, but I chose the cheap way.
If you decide to go the Reman way, see if your dealer will tell you if Harley is having
trouble with the Twin Cam engines.

This forum is great for information:
But; it will never surprise me that some will say sorry to hear about your motor and give you the facts you are looking for and others will let you know how surprised they are because they got 300,000 mileson their bikes and it is still running good. My answer is, Yes the reman program is expensive as it has to go through the dealer and yes is is a great program due to the fact you retain your motor and numbers, get a 1 year warrenty and yes it does come back better than new off the assembly line. Keep in mine what is good for you is the only thing that counts, and bigger is not always better. this applies to Hrley engines only. there you have it.

Hey, **** happens whether you have 21k or 210k on it. If it's broke, it's broke and it has to be taken care of. I will say this, there are too many options out there than to have to take a Stealership word on it and a reman. engine would be at the very bottom on my list of options. I would go the INDY and the rebuilt route and get exactly what I want. My brother just had the same issue and he was thinking of the same thing. I talked him out of it, he rebuilt his old motor and he now has a bike that does what he wants when he wants to do it. Based on the smile on his face every time he rides it I would say he is happy with the choice he made. Also, depending on your price I would be interested in your old motor if you go the reman. route.
