hi sfarson, your message is just what we needed to read regarding comparisons with other brands etc, maybe he should print this and show them at the bike school, whilst we know every brand will have its faults from time to time, the way all these jap bike riders talk about jap reliability and cost ,its as if the harley brand is a leper to be avoided, thank you. .

Hhelen, everyone's story here is different. Mine is this---This is my first HD and I have only owned Suzukis. I've never had a problem with my Suzukis and think very highly of them. That thing was virtually maintenace free. Having said that---I've never been happier with any other bike than my HD (10 months now). I feel that my Suzukis were stepping stones to my HD; but I wont say anything bad about my Jap bikes because I've had nothing but good times with them. Helen, I am sooooo glad that I bought this HD and had some of the same delimas as your husband.......but with an extended warranty, a rider who doesn't dog his bike, a rider who does preventative maintenance, and just overall taking care of my investment---I'm happy

I bought my machine in late July 2005 and have about 14,000 miles on it now. It has been totally reliable, it just runs and runs and runs and gets sweeter as the miles go on. I have it serviced at my dealer every 5000 miles.

I have had metric bikes as well, both Japanese and German, and they are also high quality, and in general quite reliable. So is the Harley Davidson. But the Harley has the image, the panache, the cache, that none of these other machines have. The Harley stirs the soul. Only those who have one can understand.

Get the Harley and be happy.

If you don't get the Harley, you will always be looking back wondering and aching for what you know you both wanted in the first place. You will get the Harley and never regret it. Promise.

Helen, I've put 29,000 miles on mine in just over a year with nary a problem. Before that I had a Dyna LR and put 10,000 miles in six months with only periodic servicing. The unreliable Harley myth is perpetrated by non-Harley riders that stems from the AMF daze [sic]. It comes mainley from that green-eyed monster, jealousy.

Helen,

I agree with comments on this section. I have owned a Honda Shadow Sabre (1100). Yamaha 535, Honda VT-700 Shadow, etc. By far the bike that I enjoy the most is my Harley. I bought it used had a small amount of work done and now I am set with the bike I wanted all along! Take a look at the pictures and you will see what a 10 year old Fatboy can look like!
