Strategically placed bandana between the forks can help but why right?

Umm... Go for it if you think it's a good idea. Obviously Harley thinks there should be a spacer there. Otherwise they would just not bother to put one on the other model springers such as the Heritage and Springer Classic since the mounting of the fender on those bikes has nothing to do with that spacer. For the Crossbones, they just combined the functionality of the spacer by having the fender strut integrated to it.

the "spacer+rod" is just a way to attach the fender. The real spacer (to position the hub correctly) is in the fork leg. You can see it from the pics in this forum. And also from sparepart catalogues technical drawings.

It sure looks better if cut the rod and leave the spacer but it doesnt have anything to do with the positioning of the wheel.

PS. Great forum btw... ive got a lot of help from here! Not so many crossbones owners here in Finland.

I got caught in the rain ONE time without a front fender on my old Triumph. Never again. You get a constant garden-hose stream of water right in the face the whole ride.

I thought the bike looked pretty cool before that too.

I ran without a front fender on my sporty for a while. Loved the look, but like others have said, you get a facefull of water when it rains. I have a front fender on my Deuce and I'll probably keep it that way.

Haven't ran one for years, went as far as shaving the legs when I pc'd the front end. I will admit I miss it on 5 day rides.

SO I'M GUESSING THIS IS WHY CERTAIN BROTHERS WEAR THE BANDANAS ON THERE FACE INSTEAD OF THE FENDER.

I pulled the front fender off my FXR to straighten it out and was too lazy to put it on and went for a ride anyway. Monsoon hit when I was miles away from home. The freeway and streets were flooded, inches deep in water. In Arizona everything floods.

It was like a garden hose of dirty water in the face. Lesson learned.

Fenders are beautiful. They are useful as well.
