i did the same thing this winter. cross bones rear, and a blacked out front wheel. i didnt get as big of spacer as you did. i think i got 1/4 in spacer and i dont know how much i bumped my wheel over. i did have to put a washer behinde the brake mount to get it to mount with out rubbing to bad. im sure ill find later that i need a bigger spacer and new axel spacers. but for now it seems to ride good.

kaynine840's spacer measurements were right on the money for an 06 FX bike. I took is word on them and ordered the pulley spacer and had my local machinist make the axle spacers. I had everything here and ready to go before Harley even had my wheel delivered.

I really dig it! Now if I could just get my painter to finish my tin set I'd be done! hahaha

Default night train with crossbones rear wheel

Hi I have a 06 night train and have bought a 09 crossbones rear wheel,I read the posts regarding axle spacers and pulley spacers, and have had all these machined up to recomended measurements that were posted at thats seems fine but having a problem with the wheel bearing swap, I know crossbones has 1'' bearings and night train has 3/4'',but the 3/4'' bearings are 21mm wide I think and the old 1'' bearings were 15mm wide,so swapping these would cause wheel bearings to stick out the end of the hub,how did you guys who have done this swap get around this? any info woul be much appreciated

A quick update and a possible answer to gesche408...

I had a little concrete mishap with my crossbones wheel, so I'm replacing it. I bought a new wheel from HD, SAME part#(44936-08) and there was NO letter designation showing a modification or change to the part, but the inside of this new wheels hub measures out differently. The Pulley side of the hub has a bearing depth that is about 3/16" shallower than the first one I bought. So when I went to assemble it the other night my crush sleeve was rattling around in there and the left side bearing was sticking out. To answer gesche408's question, in the first wheel I used my 2006 OEM bearings and crush sleeve and the pulley side bearing was flush, and the Rotor side bearing stuck out like this...

The new wheels rotor side is still the same, and the bearing sticks out like this.

So, here is the problem. NO ONE makes a bearing that will work in this new hub for a 3/4 axle. It would have to be 52mm OD x 19mm ID x 15mm Wide or 2.045 OD x .750 ID x .590 Wide for those of you who don't speak metric.

Now what fits? a 6205 bearing. 52mm OD x 25mm ID x 15mm Wide. Which is the bearing that HD now uses for these bikes.

So, my solution? I am using my OEM 2006 wheel bearing on the rotor side, the new 6205 bearing on the pulley side with a bearing reducer to take that 25mm bearing down to a 19mm (3/4), and a new crush sleeve that is 3/16 of an inch longer. The old crush sleeve was about 5-9/16" give or take, and my new one will end up about 5-3/4" long. The over all Width from outside of bearing to outside of bearing should not change, so the spacers that were recommended by kaynine840 should still work.

I'll keep you all updated and let you know the results,
Mike

Default Inner reducer/Crush sleeve

Ok, here's what I came up with. We machined the reducer end to .983 for a tight slip fit, we didn't see a point in making the OD and the ID press fit since the spacers hold everything tight. But I will use some Loctite on the slip fit for piece of mind. I know this is a bit over-engineered when I could have just returned this wheel and ordered something from Ride Wright, HDwheels or something similar. But, I'm still spending less $ than that solution, AND getting my bike on the road 3 weeks sooner. Plus, its fun! Haha

Here are some pics of it slipped together...

This is the bearing that I'm using...

Here's a pic of the finished Inner reducer/Crush sleeve...

The Inner reducer/Crush sleeve has just a hair over a .010 preload on the bearings.

The Inner reducer/Crush sleeve also stops .015 from the lip of the bearing, so it will not interfere with the outer spacers doing their job.

See pics and dims. below...

1-1/4 OD x .250 wall DOM tubing..

3/4 ID for the axle...

Crush tube length...

Slip fit length...

Slip Fit Diameter...

According to the numbers, the outer spacers should still all work fine, but I won't know 100% until I get into the shop later on tonight.

I'll keep you all updated...

It all worked out! If you use my dims on the sleeve and Kaynine840's dims on the outer spacers everything will workout. Just got back from a 20 mile shake down run. All is good...

now if you read up on this in other threads, you'll know that this rear wheel is NOT a straight swap as the 06 train haas a 3/4" axle and the bones has a 1" axle i think. and its not as simple as changing the bearings either. you need new outter bearing axle spacers and a pulley spacer. the pulley spacer size is 7/16" thick with a locating diameter of 2.208" and the length of the outter axle spacers i used are 1/4" for the rotor side and 1 11/16" for the pulley side. i know other people have tried this or wondered about doing it before, and i hope this answers any questions and helps out a little.

Looks great man. Love your exhaust

I realize this is a crazy old thread, but would you happen to know the part# for the pulley spacer?, or was this a custom machined part?
