Wondering if someone can help. I recently acquired a 2012 Softail Deluxe and among the list of upgrades, I chose to get the Vance & Hines Big Shots Long installed. I was recently informed that the oxygen sensors for all 2012 V&H HD models were not available and nor was an adapter made for an alternate O2 sensor.

I tried researching this online as well as visiting the V&H website. I have not found anything to substantiate this. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem or this is a bunch of BS.

V&H site says they are available for 2012, but I thought there was an adapter too

 

I have Big Shots Staggered on my 2012 Lo, and I did not have to use any adapters. I would assume the longs would be the same.

 

We just installed new pipes on a friends 2012 deluxe, O2 bung on pipes was the older 18mm type.

We purchased adapters that take bung from 18mm to the older 12mm... Check ebay auction 140661679190 for reference.

Week later friend ended up buying a power commander which no longer requires O2, we could have just plugged the hole...

 

Were these 2012 V&H pipes.

 

Negative, Patriot defender longs listed as 2012 models.

Difference between 09-12 pipes and older models would be size of bung.

09-2012 = 18mm
prior to 2009 = 12mm

Some companies like V&h actually make some of their(not all) pipes with different size holes for the sensors, some companies just package or require purchase of adapters.

 

Did you get the pipes for a 2012? I only ask as I am about a week from buying a 2012 Deluxe with a stage one, and we were looking through the catalog today and they list a seperate pipe for the 2012 bikes, and even mention the oxygen sensors.

The pipes that are being installed on my '12 Softail Deluxe are '11. The problem that arises is that the oxygen sensor that is required for a '12 Softail Deluxe (all Softails really) is a 12mm, the oxygen sensor size on the '11 or older pipes (which fit the same way on that bike by the way) is an 18mm. Therefore, what is required is a "cuplink type" adapter bung that will allow you to fasten the 12mm O2 sensors. Keep in mind that a wiring kit will be needed as well. The whole kit can be purchased for 21.95US from www.phatperformanceparts.com (search for la choppers adapter kit).

So there you have it...the answer finally. I should also mention that I spoke with V&H this AM and they informed me that although the Big Shots Long are made, they haven't shipped any out to their dealers yet. The technician I spoke to this morning said he expects them to be ready for purchase in mid March. Plan safely though, that's just what they say.

Although I cannot contest as to what size of O2 sensors were prior to 2009, I can however confirm via telephone conversation this AM that the O2 sensor sizes on the new 2012 V&H Big Shots Long (for all Softails) will be 12mm.
