Default Best Sissy Bar, Luggage Rack combo for Softail

I have a 2010 Fatboy and I want to take it on a road trip by myself.
the Harley shop quoted and suggested a detachable medium low chrome along with a 5 bar chrome luggage rack. Both are detachable and it looks like it would be an ok option. I'm wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions, I'm wondering if there are any nicer selections if I opt for permanent sissy bar installation. I kinda like the sissy bars with the Harley Made in USA logo on them, the detachables look very plain at least in the catalog photos. I know I can opt for detachable hard bags as well, but I think I can get by with just the carrier. Any suggestions?

I have a 30" black sissy bar on my Lo that I got at Cycle Vision here in San Diego. I just did a 800 mile trip and strapped a backpack to it, and it worked great. I happen to like the look better than one with a luggage rack.

So without a rack, you just reversed the position of the bag so it was in front of the "attitude stick" and directly behind the driver right? And I presume that's comfortable, because I hear a lot of the bags are equipped with a pad you can rest against. Or did I miss something?

I just saw one on their web site on a bike, that black bar looks badass on a black bike. I'm gonna have to think about that one... thanks for your post...

Good thread as I've been looking luggage ideas myself. I don't have any sissy bar/luggage rack recommendations, but have considered this bag: http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Lug...y-Bar-Bags/SB1 It's leather but not made in the USA like I'd prefer. Cheap, yes, but I'd like to hear of similar products made in the US that people have used and really like.

I would look on ebay, you can get the detachable complete for around $100.

I actually hung it off the back because I was two up, but if I was solo I would have put it in front. I just slide the handle of the pack over the point, then wrap the straps around. The handle over the point keeps it from sliding down onto the fender. It is a fairly large military pack, and was easy to get on and off. worked great.
