Default New (to me) 94 Heritage Classic

Hey gang, I just joined the Harley club with a 1994 Heritage Classic. Its in mint shape and runs well. I cant wait to get on and tear up the road.

I want to change a couple of things and I am looking for advice.

(1) It has 12" mini apes. I am a tall guy with ape arms to begin with, so I might go back to stock. Will I have to change hoses and cables if I go back to stock?

(2) It has Vance and Hines Longshots. These are too loud for me. I can go back to stock, but I understand that stock is *too* restrictive. Is there anything that is quiet like stock so I wont wake up the neighbourhood when I leave at 4AM? Can I change the baffle in the long shots (if there is one).

thanks!

Thanks guys.

Looks like I can get a few options for the Vance and Hines long shot:
- vance and hines quiet baffle (some say it only take off a little bit)
- Big city thunder QQ baffle
- Smartpartz baffle add-on for V&H quiet baffle

Anyone have experience with any of these?

When I bought my bike I intended to put the stock pipes on. But I realized people and deer, really do behave better when you have loud pipes. And they do quiet down some with age.

Just take it easy getting out of your neighborhood.

I wouldn't get rid of the mini-apes for a while. I love my 12-inchers.

Welcome to the world of Softails. Congrats on the new purchase.

I agree with the others. Ride the bike for a while. You may find you actually like the apes and the V&H pipes. For now, just don't gun it out of the neightborhood. If your neighbors don't like it they can move or set the coffee pot to brew at 4am. It's actually quite simple.

As far as the bars go, you can poosen the clamp and move them away from you to get a bit more reach. As far as changing them, it is impossible to know on a older bike what all may have been changed to guess if the cables would be long enough for taller bars. As far as the exhaust goes, what are you looking for? There are a ton of styles, 2-1, 2-2, true duals just for starts. look around and see what you want for looks first.

Con grats on the new ride and welcome from East Tennessee. V&H long shots are a good choice for looks and perf. V&H makes quiet baffles for your system. You can find 'em for about $30 a piece if you shop around. Also there are torque inserts out there that will quiet them down, or pull yours out an repack the baffle material. With regard to the factory mini apes they are a good all around bar. May want to adjust them forward some and try that. If you go shorter, cables should not be an issue.
