Default Saddlemen Deluxe Tailbag on a skinny seat

Hey there, letting my buddy use my tailbag on his Blackline for Sturgis. My seat is wide so it fits snug, but his bike has that narrow back seat so there's about a 2 inch gap between the seat and the bag on each side. Do I just crank the bag down and hope it won't shift? Maybe criss-cross the straps? Any pointers from someone with experience (or good guessers, lol)?
