Combo tach/speedo has it's own fuel gauge. You could so that and then not worry about eliminating the one on the cap.
That is my plan, I installed the combo gauge and know just figuring what to do with the factory gauge.

Aren't you going to glue the stock gas cap into the hydrant cap? Just do the same to the gauge.
Be sure to not screw up the venting feature of the stock cap (it has to breathe into the tank but not out) or the bike won't run.
