No problem, glad my crude metal-fab skills were useful for you!

You're right Ben...I've been slacking. I'll start updating on my build thread this week so as not to hijack, or even worse, be compared to Redbeard's build. Mine pales by comparison. Can I just say again, Red...AWESOME!

May be of interest for Springer people (or anyone) who haven't seen the following thread (doubtful, but there could be someone who hasn't seen it :))

First off, sweet ride, now it truly is a classic with class. First off let me say I'm not real good with the whole world at your finger tip's new Technology. Known about this HD forum for years just not slick enough to work it right, hell I just joined tonight.
Plus I kind of liked my way of researching shit, ride around with the dog on the tank, talk to friends, talk to small shops, talk to dealerships and if I haven't found what I'm looking for and can still remember what it was! I turn on the computer.
I'm currently putting on a Crossbones cat eye dash on my 05 Springer Classic. I keep trying to get to the part where you show the bracket you fabricated. But for some reason can't get pass the first page.
I live in Colorado to, would enjoy the chance to meet, ride, have a beer or walk the dog. I understand you may be to busy too. This Greybeard would really appreciate any info you would care to share.

Chopper, welcome! This is a great place and you can get pretty much any answer you need. Here is my little plate I made.

First of all, great thanks to Redbeard with his help on this project.

A former 03 heritage springer owner, he recently built a terrific newer springer. Here is his thread.

His old school cat eye dash looked great to me so I decided to follow suit. He gave me great instructions and the parts list.

It's an easy job, only tricky part is you have to make a little plate to mount the retaining bolt lower.

Here are some before and after pics, and a pic of the little plate I made.

Here's a little video I took to explain how the speedometer comes out of the dashboard. It's a pretty clever design by Harley, snap fit with pins to keep the speedo centered properly.

I'm not sure it's the best bang for the buck mod, as its a pretty esoteric change, but it adds a nice old school look to the springer in my opinion.
